General Information
- What is Coustyx?
-
Coustyx is a software program developed by Advanced Numerical Solutions (ANSOL), for computation of steady state sound fields. Coustyx integrates the Fast Multipole Method (FMM) with advanced Boundary Element (BEM) formulations to obtain rapid solutions to acoustic field problems. The small memory footprint of Coustyx, coupled with fast solvers allows simulation of very large problems (up to 1 Million DOF) in acoustics. For more details, Take a tour of Coustyx.
- How to use Coustyx for trial runs?
-
First, download and install Coustyx on your local machine. After installation is completed, you could use Coustyx for trial runs on Demo Models provided in Validation Examples. You don't need a license key to run acoustic analysis on these Demo Models. A Demo Model has an embedded license key which allows trial runs for that model. Any changes to the Demo Model will automatically makes the license key invalid. To run Coustyx for your own model, contact sales@ansol.com.
- What are Validation Examples?
-
Coustyx software is validated extensively against analytical solutions and experimental measurements, where available. Browse through our growing collection of Validations Examples to verify Coustyx.
- How do I purchase a Coustyx license?
-
Email to sales@ansol.com to purchase a valid license key.
- Is Coustyx available in 64-bit version?
-
Yes. Coustyx is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Download 64-bit Coustyx installer for windows here.
- Is Coustyx code multi-threaded?
-
Yes. Coustyx code is parallelized to run on shared-memory, multi-core processors. The analysis runs faster with the increase in the number of cores in the processor. The user can purchase this option for additional charge.
Download & Installation
- How to download and install Coustyx?
-
Download Coustyx windows installer (.msi) file to your local computer. Follow instructions provided in README.txt to install Coustyx. Install a valid License Key before using Coustyx for acoustic analysis. Note: You don't need a license key to try Demo Models provided on our website.
- How to install a License Key?
-
First, download and install Coustyx on your local machine. Then, from the Start menu of your computer click on Start|All Programs|Coustyx32(or Coustyx64)|Install License Key to open "Install License Key" window. Copy your License Key into the "License Key" box. If you don't have a License Key, copy the Computer ID found in the "Install License Key" window and email it to sales@ansol.com to get a valid License. Once you receive your License Key, copy and paste the key into the "License Key" box. Click on "Install License Key" to finish installation. Verify the status of the installed license key from the tab "Installed: License Info". Click on "Done" to exit the window.
- How to find Computer ID required for obtaining a license key?
-

From the Start menu of your computer, click on Start|All Programs|Coustyx32(or Coustyx64)|Install License Key to open "Install License Key" window. Coustyx Help
- Where can I find help on how to use Coustyx software?
-
Visit Training Resources web page to find help on Coustyx software. Training resources include instructional videos, manuals, and tutorials. You can also access help from the User Interface (UI) by pressing F1 or selecting Help from the menu. Click on highlighted text links in the UI to directly go to their definitions in Coustyx User's Manual. The User's Manual should open in your default web browser. If you are having trouble with this refer to the FAQ: Why are Coustyx help links not working properly on my machine?.
- Why are Coustyx help links not working properly on my machine?
-
Coustyx opens the pdf help file in a Web Browser. You should modify the settings in your Adobe Reader and your default Web Browser to enable the display of pdf files in the Web Browser. Visit http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=333544 for more information on how to configure your browser to display pdf files.
- Where can I find Coustyx tutorials?
-
Step-by-step instructions on how to build Coustyx models and run acoustic analysis are available in Tutorials on Training Resources web page.
- Why the surface element 154 is skipped while reading the ANSYS .rst file?
-
SURF154 is the ANSYS surface-effect element overlaid onto the area face of a 3-D element. These elements are used to apply surface loads or effects. In ANSYS workbench, SURF154 is automatically created to apply pressure or force loads. While importing structure geometry from ANSYS, Coustyx skips these elements to read only the 3D elements over which SURF154 elements are created.
- Why do I get a bunch of warning messages about the data for a node not being found, while loading the frequency response data?
-
When there is a mismatch between the geometry and the frequency response data of a structure, you get the following message: "Data for node with ID:xxx was not found in the frequency response file." Make sure that the geometry and the frequency response data belong to the same mesh.

- Trouble-shooting windows uninstallation error
-
When Coustyx installation is not done correctly (or stopped prematurely), you can face the following error while uninstalling the software. "There is a problem with Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected...". This prevents the user from uninstalling older version or reinstalling a newer version of Coustyx. You can resolve this problem by using "Windows Installer Cleanup Utility". For more information on how to download and use the "Windows Installer Cleanup Utility", visit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301. Read the instructions provided on their website carefully before using the software. Note that the "Windows Installer Cleanup Utility" only removes the Windows Installer Configuration information related to the program. It doesn't uninstall the program. But it, however, allows you to reinstall the program in the same folder. After cleaning up Coustyx using "Windows Installer Cleanup Utility", reinstall Coustyx in the same "Installation Folder". If the problem persists, contact support@ansol.com for assistance.
